task 18 - facial recognition

1. How do face recognition systems work?
A facial recognition system is a computer application for automatically identifying or verifying a person from a digital image or a video frame from a video source. One of the ways to do this is by comparing selected facial features from the image and a facial database. things measured by the software are:
  • Distance between the eyes
  • Width of the nose
  • Depth of the eye sockets
  • The shape of the cheekbones
  • The length of the jaw line
2. What are the advantages of the face recognition system for the school?
saves a teacher taking the register
quicker in time
saves school money in teacher's wages
very accurate late system.

3. What are the disadvantages for the 6th form students?
  • Significant glare on eyeglasses or wearing sunglasses
  • Long hair obscuring the central part of the face
  • Poor lighting that would cause the face to be over- or under-exposed
  • Lack of resolution (image was taken too far away)

it could also take more of the stundents time, especially if the system is not working properly.

4. What alternative systems could have been used?
